A história do reggae africano com certeza não seria a mesma sem Alpha Blondy. Ele é considerado uma espécie de Bob Marley afro, com discursos contra o Apartheid e as brigas tribais que dominam o continente. Nascido em Seydou Kone na Costa do Marfim, Blondy iniciou sua carreira como vocalista da banda de rock Atomic Vibrations. Bandeou-se para o lado do reggae após ouvir Bob Marley & The Wailers. Blondy gravou alguns singles na Jamaica, que não obtiveram sucesso esperado. Trabalhou como tradutor na TV inglesa e iniciou sua carreira de glórias com o álbum Cocody Rock (1984). Três anos depois, lançou sua obra-prima, Jerusalém. Gravado com os Wailers, o disco tem mensagens religiosas e sociais da melhor qualidade, cantadas em inglês, francês, hebraico e no dialeto africano dioula. Ao mesmo tempo em que constrói uma obra de respeito, Blondy sofre de sérios problemas psicológicos em decorrência do uso de drogas pesadas. Born Seydou Kone Ivory Coast, Blondy began his career as lead singer of the rock band Atomic Vibrations. Swung over to the side of reggae after listening to Bob Marley & The Wailers. Blondy recorded some singles in Jamaica, who did not get expected success. Worked as a translator for English TV and began his career with the glories album Cocody Rock (1984). Three years later he released his masterpiece, Jerusalem. Recorded with the Wailers, the disc has religious and social messages of the highest quality, sung in English, French, Hebrew and Dioula African dialect. While building a work of respect, Blondy suffers from serious psychological problems due to heavy drug use.
