Avenged Sevenfold é uma banda norte-americana de metal formada em Huntington Beach, Califórnia em 1999. Alcançaram grande reconhecimento com o lançamento do álbum City of Evil em 2005, na qual incluia singles como Burn It Down, Bat Country, Beast And The Harlot e Seize The Day. O sucesso continuou com Avenged Sevenfold, de 2007, com os singles Critical Acclaim, Almost Easy, Afterlife, Scream e Dear God. Surgiram com um som metalcore em seus dois primeiros álbuns, mas mais tarde mudaram seu estilo para uma sonoridade mais hard rock com o lançamento de City of Evil. No final de 2009 a morte do baterista e membro fundador da banda, Jimmy “The Reverend” Sullivan foi anunciada. A banda foi formada por M. Shadows e Zacky Vengeance. Também em seu álbum homônimo, as músicas Dear God e o início de Gunslinger tem uma sonoridade country, enquanto A Little Piece Of Heaven apresenta elementos teatrais, num estilo diferente de qualquer outra música da banda, usando orquestra e instrumentos pouco comuns no heavy metal, em uma sonoridade que se assemelha ao estilo da banda System of a Down, o que confirma influências de metal alternativo. Os integrantes do Avenged Sevenfold não se consideram com um estilo específico apesar de serem um dos maiores expoentes do New Wave of American Metal.54 55 Eles mudaram muito desde seu primeiro álbum, passando de um metalcore para algo mais heavy metal/hard rock.
