Compay Segundo. Violonista, clarinetista, tresero e compositor cubano. Aos nove anos, com o falecimento de sua avó, se mudou com sua família para a cidade de Santiago de Cuba. Compay Segundo afirmava que, desde os cinco anos, acendia os puros (charutos) para sua avó. Desde então, não deixou o hábito de fumar. Em Santiago, fez o que grande parte da população cubana fazia: aprendeu o ofício de enrolador de charutos. Ao mesmo tempo, dava aulas com uma jovem que o introduziu nos segredos do pentagrama, Noemí Toro. Por sua influência, Repilado optou pelo clarinete. Foi tocando este instrumento que Repilado fez sua primeira viagem a Havana, em 1929, com a Banda Municipal de Música, na ocasião da inauguração do Capitolio Nacional. Em 1935, com o guarachero Ñico Saquito e sua banda Cuban Star, viajou novamente à capital cubana - desta feita, para lá residir definitivamente. Autodidata do tres e de violão, criou um novo instrumento de corda, mesclando aqueles instrumentos, o armonico. Muitas de suas composições musicais se caracterizam por seu conteúdo imaginativo e grande senso de humor. Foi no México onde integrou, como clarinetista, o grupo Matamoros e teve a oportunidade de trabalhar com o músico Benny Moré. Lá, também, fundou, em 1942, a dupla Los Compadres, cantando com o cubano Lorenzo Hierrezuelo. Lorenzo era a primeira voz e tinha o apelido de Compay Primo (primeiro compadre), enquanto Repilado era a segunda voz, o Compay Segundo, pseudônimo que o acompanhou até o fim de seus dias e pelo qual é reconhecido mundialmente. Sua carreira teve inúmeras mudanças; integrou o sexteto Los Seis Ases, o Cuarteto Cubanacán, e foi clarinetista da Banda Municipal de Santiago de Cuba. Em 1956 criou o grupo Compay Segundo y sus Muchachos, com quem trabalhou até sua morte. Compay Segundo foi um artista único. A maneira que produzia o som se ajustava ao modelo da zona oriental de Cuba, pelo que é reconhecido como um grande representante da cubanía. Os estilos em que transitava eram: son, guaracha, bolero, além de canciones com marcados matizes caribenhos. Sua voz, grave e redonda, acompanhou célebres cantores de fama internacional. Com os muchachos de seu grupo, foi capaz de fazer dançar multidões de todos os continentes. Realizou turnês pela América Latina e Europa, particularmente Espanha, onde gravou seus últimos discos. Sobretudo partir de 1992, criou-se, na Espanha, um ambiente favorável para a trova e o son tradicional e foram convidados antigos e respeitados músicos desse estilo. Com isso, em 1995, Compay Segundo teve uma antologia sua organizada por Santiago Auserón, e foi o início de sua consagração internacional e a retomada de sua carreira artística. Compay Segundo participou ativamente do ambicioso projeto Buena Vista Social Club, um disco produzido por Ry Cooder, em 1996, em que se reuniram os grandes nomes da música cubana, como Ibrahim Ferrer, Juan de Marcos González, Rubén González, Manuel “Puntillita” Licea, Orlando “Cachaito” López, Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, Barbarito Torres, Amadito “Tito” Valdés e Pio Leyva. O disco foi premiado com o Grammy e promoveu um ressurgimento fabuloso de músicos cubanos que, em alguns casos, estavam no ostracismo por mais de 10 anos. Aos 94 anos, estreou nos palcos como ator, em uma peça intitulada “Se secó el arroyto” (algo como “secou-se o riozinho”), baseada em uma de suas canções e que narra os amores frustrados de um casal de jovens nos anos anteriores à Revolução Cubana (1959). Entre as canções mais conhecidas interpretadas por Compay Segundo se encontram: “Sarandonga”, “Saludos, Compay”, “¿Y tú, qué has hecho?”, “Amor de la loca juventud”, “Juramento” e “Veinte años”. Certamente, a mais famosa de todas é “Chan Chan”, que, segundo dizem, já foi ouvida até no Vaticano. Compay Segundo faleceu em 2003, em Havana, próximo a sua família e com o respeito e a consideração de seus patrícios. Deixou cinco filhos. Roqueiro precoce, aos 12 anos tocava com os Cave Man, banda de cover dos Beatles. Ao longo dos anos de 1970, emprestaria sua guitarra ao Albatroz, Veludo Elétrico, Veludo e Vímana, no qual tocou com o então flautista Ritchie e o baterista Lobão. Depois de um tempo como músico free-lancer, estreou carreira solo, com o nome de Luís Maurício, lançando um compacto. Em 1981, já como Lulu Santos, lançou o compacto com “Tesouros da Juventude”, parceria com o jornalista e produtor Nelson Motta. Em 1982, lançou seu LP de estréia, “Tempos Modernos”, cuja faixa-título se tornaria seu primeiro grande sucesso. Seguiriam-se os LPs “O Ritmo do Momento” (1983), “Tudo Azul” (1984), “Normal” (1985), “Lulu” (1986) e “Toda Forma de Amor” (1988), que lhe garantiram uma invejável quantidade de sucessos: “Um Certo Alguém”, “Como Uma Onda”, “Tão Bem”, “O Último Romântico”, “Casa” e “A Cura”. Depois de três LPs sem a mesma repercussão de antes – “Popsambalanço e Outras Levadas” (1989), “Honolulu” (1990) e “Mondo Cane” (1992) –, Lulu Santos fez as pazes com o sucesso ao enveredar pela disco-dance nos LPs “Assim Caminha a Humanidade”, “Eu e Memê, Memê e Eu” (1995, com o produtor Marcelo “Memê” Mansur) e “Anticiclone Tropical” (1996). Uma parada para a experimentação eletrônica – o disco “Liga Lá”, de 1997 – e o músico voltou ao formato radiofônico com “Calendário” (1999), puxado pela música “Fogo de Palha”. Depois de “Lulu Acústico” (2000 – BMG), álbum que vendeu 700 mil cópias, cansado do violão, Lulu retorna à guitarra e lança seu 17º disco, “Programa”, em 2002. O disco marca a reestréia da banda Paralamas do Sucesso após o acidente com Herbert Vianna (de ultraleve, em fevereiro de 2001), que tocou guitarra na faixa 4 do 5, referência à data de aniversário de Herbert e do solista, ambos de 4 de maio. Em 2003, Lulu traz o álbum “Bugalu” (Sony BMG). Dentre as várias canções deste CD está “Já é!”, que faz parte da trilha sonora da novela global “Agora é Que São Elas”. O DVD de Lulu vem em 2004, juntamente com o CD homônimo: “MTV Ao Vivo”. Neste trabalho, que lhe rendeu 800 mil cópias vendidas, encontram-se os maiores sucessos da carreira do cantor e compositor, em versões acústicas de seus maiores sucessos gravadas para o programa de televisão MTV Ao Vivo. A banda espanhola Dark Moor foi formada no ano de 1993 pelos guitarristas Enrik García e Javier Rubio, e após algumas idas e vindas e a gravação de uma série de demos, a formação do grupo se estabiliza com Elisa Martín, Albert Maroto, Enrik García, Anan Kaddouri e Jorge Saez. A banda decide então adicionar um tecladista, cargo que passa a ser ocupado por Roberto Peña. A banda também participou do álbum The Keepers of Jericho, de tributo à banda alemã de power metal Helloween. Depois que lançou Shadowland (1999), ganhando grande reconhecimento por onde passou, eles fazem uma turnê pela Espanha com os fodáticos do Demons & Wizards (Hansi Kürsch e Jon Schaffer), ganhando uma legião de fans ainda maior. Esse álbum mostra mais maturidade dos integrantes e garantindo Elisa como uma referencia para vocalistas de metal que não faz o lírico. Já com o mercado sólido na Espanha, Japão e até mesmo no Brasil. Eles lançam Beyond The Sea. Um álbum que se destaca grande qualidade e técnica dos integrantes da banda, principalmente Alfred Romero que estava finalmente parando de imitar Elisa. Enrik García e Javier Rubio mostram que estão bem coesos e se transformando em grandes guitaristas que baseam suas melodias em músicas clássicas. Mostrando que o álbum é um prato cheio de Pomposas canções. Com a saída de Javier Rúbio, parece que o barco ia naufragar, assim diziam alguns. Para dar um exemplo da importancia do cara para banda, vamos dizer que ele era como o Kiko Loureiro para o Angra. Mas essas pessoas não esperavam que no inicio de 2007 um novo Dark Moor estaria varrendo quarterões com um dos melhores álbuns do ano. Tarot, é um álbum moderno, poderoso e diferente. Bem equilibrado e equalizado, mostra que Enrike Gárcia era o monstro por trás de tudo. O cara simplesmente mudou de nível nas guitarras! A formação original da banda também incluia Paz Lenchantin no baixo, Troy Van Leeuwen na guitarra e Tim Alexander na bateria. O último line-up da banda consistia em Jeordie White (conhecido como Twiggy Ramirez, baixista de longa data da banda do Marilyn Manson), o guitarrista original da banda Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha e o baterista Josh Freese.
