John Dawson Winter III - mais conhecido como Johnny Winter - nasceu em Beaumont, Texas, no dia 23 de fevereiro de 1944. É um guitarrista e cantor de blues norte-americano excelente. Johnny começou a se apresentar ainda jovem com seu irmão Edgar Winter, que, assim como ele, é albino. Seu primeiro disco, chamado de Schoolboy Blues, foi lançado quando Johnny tinha apenas 15 anos de idade. Em 1968 ele começou a tocar em um trio com o baixista Tommy Shannon e o baterista Uncle John Turner. Um artigo na revista Rolling Stone ajudou a gerar interesse no grupo. O álbum Johnny Winter foi lançado no final do ano. Em 1969 o trio se apresentou em vários festivais, incluindo o importantíssimo Woodstock. Em 1973, depois de se livrar (temporariamente) das drogas, Winter retornou com um de seus melhores álbuns, o famoso Still Alive and Well. Diversos álbuns foram sendo lançados, com a média de 1 por ano. Em 1977 ele produziu o álbum Hard Again de Muddy Waters. A parceria resultaria em várias indicações ao Grammy, e Johhny gravou o álbum Nothing But Blues com os integrantes da banda de Muddy. Em 1988 ele foi incluído no “Hall da Fama do Blues”. Hoje em dia, Johnny encontra-se fazendo shows sobre uma cadeira. Sua velhice é notável, mas ele continua tocando com um feeling extraordinário. John Dawson Winter III - better known as Johnny Winter - was born in Beaumont, Texas, on 23 February 1944. It is an excellent guitarist and American blues singer. Johnny started performing at a young age with his brother Edgar Winter, who, like him, is albino. His first album, called Schoolboy Blues, was released when Johnny was only 15 years old. In 1968 he began playing in a trio with bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Uncle John Turner. An article in Rolling Stone helped generate interest in the group. Johnny Winter album was released later in the year. In 1969 the trio has performed in many festivals, including the very important Woodstock. In 1973, after breaking free (temporarily) drugs, Winter returned with one of his best albums, the famous Still Alive and Well. Several albums were being launched, with an average of 1 per year. In 1977 he produced the album Hard Again Muddy Waters. The partnership would result in several Grammy nominations, and Johhny recorded the album Nothing But Blues with members of Muddy band. In 1988 he was included in the "Hall of Fame Blues". Today, Johnny is doing shows on a chair. His old age is remarkable, but he keeps playing with an extraordinary feeling.
