A história da Banda Cheiro de Amor começou em 1983, quando os diretores do Bloco Cheiro de Amor sentiram a necessidade de formar uma banda própria para animar o bloco durante o carnaval de Salvador. Nasceu com o nome de Banda Pimenta de Cheiro para, dois anos depois, receber o nome definitivo. No início, o referencial maior foi a banda Scorpius, hoje Chiclete com Banana, comandada por Bell Marques que, na época, comandava o Bloco Traz-Os-Montes, no carnaval de Salvador. Do primeiro grupo, o único componente que continua até hoje é o guitarrista Vicente, diretor do bloco e integrante do Coral da Igreja da Boa Viagem, na Cidade Baixa. Os outros componentes eram: Toninho (guitarra baiana), Valtinho (bateria), Bereu (baixo), Zuca e Zé do Brown (percussão). Os cantores eram Laurinha e Gilton. Em 1984, entraram Zé de Henrique (teclado), Marinho (baixo), Guiguiu e Terezinha Veloir (vocais). Em seguida, entraram também Ramiro Mussoto e Tony Mola, dois percussionistas famosos da Bahia e ainda a cantora Jeane. Márcia Freire e Kako passaram a comandar a banda. Em seguida, Serginho (hoje líder da Pimenta N'Ativa) substituiu Kako. Mesmo com tantas mudanças, a base foi mantida com Zé de Henrique, Vicente, Lalo, Júnior e Bolão. Em 1996, a cantora Carla Visi assumiu o comando da banda em lugar de Márcia Freire, que seguiu carreira solo. O primeiro disco foi gravado em 1985, com ajuda de alguns amigos, principalmente do radialista Cristovão Rodrigues e do produtor musical Ricardo Cavalcante, dono do selo Stalo. Durante toda sua trajetória, a Banda Cheiro de Amor lançou 15 discos, vendendo 8 milhões de cópias. Desde o primeiro disco, sempre colocou músicas nas paradas. As três músicas que se destacaram no disco de estréia foram "Baiana merengueira", "Dançar merengue" e "Arerê". A banda gravou três discos ao vivo, ganhou seis discos de platina e 12 de ouro. O empresário Manoel Castro lembra que, no início da carreira, a banda teve uma ajuda para muito importante para se projetar nacionalmente. No dia do lançamento do primeiro disco, Chacrinha estava em Salvador e foi levado para a festa. Ouviu o disco, gostou e depois disso a banda passou a ser presença constante nos programas do Velho Guerreiro. A banda apresentou-se em vários países: Portugal, Estados Unidos, Alemanha, França, Espanha e no consagrado Festival de Montreux, na Suíça. Participou de uma importante coletânea: "Axé Cae - Jovens baianos cantam Caetano Veloso". Em 2001 lançou o CD "Tô na multidão", fazendo turnê nacional para a divulgação do CD. No ano de 2003, ao lado de Ivete Sangalo, O Rappa, Harmonia do Samba, Banda Olodum e Jota Quest, participou do evento "Cabofolia", na Praia do Forte, na cidade de Cabo Frio, no Rio de Janeiro. Elizabeth Caroline Orton, mais conhecida como Beth Orton, é uma cantora e compositora inglesa, vencedora dum BRIT Award. Ela é conhecida por seu estilo folktronica, que mistura música folk e eletrônica, e foi inicialmente reconhecida por suas colaborações com William Orbit e Chemical Brothers em meados dos anos 90, mas essas não foram suas primeiras gravações.
