Quando o Doves se formava, diante da explosão do acid house na cidade de Manchester, na Inglaterra, seus integrantes eram apenas três adolescentes buscando o sucesso. Os irmãos gêmeos Jez e Andy Williams nunca mais tinham ouvido falar de seu ex-colega de escola, Jimi Goodwin até que eles se trombaram, literalmente numa noite na pista de dança do legendário Hacienda Club, a casa noturna onde toda aquela geração que queria dar um rumo para sua vida se reunia. Eles também se reuniram e resolveram então formar sua banda. Com sua inspiração, apresentações ao vivo intensas e repletas de loucas guitarras que complementam canções de gosto refinado, eles estão na crista da onda. Em meados de 1993 começaram com o nome de Sub Sub e chegaram até a colocar uma música na 3a. posição da parada inglesa de dance music, ‘Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use)’. E essa preferência por dance music não foi um obstáculo para que depois formassem uma banda de verdade. Assim nasceu o Doves, literalmente num batismo de fogo. Colocaram na rua o single ‘Cedar’ e colaboraram nas gravações do Badly Drawn Boy, já que o próprio Damon Gough os persuadiu dizendo que o próximo trabalho deles precisava de um tratamento especial da “cozinha” do Doves. Depois de muitos tropeços e outros obstáculos que eles souberam triunfantemente ultrapassar. Na mente desses jovens de vinte e poucos anos só passavam a insistência, o euforismo, a melancolia e nesse apanhado construíram trechos de guitarras indestrutíveis, seguidos de belas canções. Eles têm raízes na música eletrônica que curtiam desde moleques e isso claramente se apresenta nas suas músicas, diminuindo a intensidade com o passar do tempo, mas ainda existente. ‘Lost Souls’ foi sucesso de crítica e levou a banda a capas de revistas e rendeu alguns bons awards de banda revelação. O Doves vem da safra que traz bandas para alargar o quadro dos britpops inaugurado por Oasis, Verve, Radiohead e outros e que pretende formar um esquadrão de peso com suaves melodias, letras sofisticadas, inteligentes e com pitadas das influências de cada qual... The twin brothers Jez and Andy Williams had never heard of his former classmate, Jimi Goodwin until they stumbled , literally overnight on the dancefloor of the legendary Hacienda Club , the nightclub where all the generation that wanted to a direction for your life met .
