Ele nasceu Luiz Carlos Alves da Silva, às margens do rio Capibaribe, no Recife, em 1965. Dois anos depois, mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro. Em 1975, aos nove anos de idade, pisou pela primeira vez um palco, acompanhando os primos Nadia e Tuca Maia, do Grupo "Alcano", no "Segundo Festival Um Milhão de Amigos". Sentindo-se um catalisador e um decodificador das mensagens que pairam no ar, numa determinada dimensão, como sinais enviados de várias fontes para várias freqüências, Carlinhos Veloz reconhece essas energias como "estrelas". É como se ele, com uma sensibilidade nobre, psicografasse o que há de belo no universo. Talvez por isso mesmo, Carlinhos Veloz escreve não apenas o reflexo de suas experiências reais, mas também os sonhos que habitam sua cabeça e a das pessoas de quem ele gostaria de ser o porta-voz. O resultado de tudo isso não poderia deixar de ser uma grande afinidade imediata que se tem ao ouvi-lo. Em 1992, lançou no Maranhão seu primeiro disco: "Carlinhos Veloz". Sucesso absoluto de crítica, foi indicado como revelação regional para o "Prêmio Sharp de Música" e bateu o recorde de vendas em todo o estado do Maranhão. No cd "Vibratons", Carlinhos Veloz alcança uma linguagem universal misturando toda a influência que carrega das culturas musicais maranhense e pernambucana a estilos clássicos de todo o mundo como jazz, funk music e, em alguns momentos, como na canção "Vazante", até unindo ritmos como maracatu, bumba-boi e ciranda às guitarras distorcidas do bom e velho rock and roll.
