Criados em San Diego, Califórnia, quando o baixista e vocalista e o guitarrista e também vocalista se juntaram ao baterista Scott Raynor. Após alguns anos de ensaios e apresentações, lançam as demos "Flyswatter" em 1992 e “Buddha” em 1994. A demo "Buddha" foi lançada pelo selo , de propriedade dos The Vandals. No ano seguinte, sai o “Cheshire Cat”, já pela Cargo Records. Após esse álbum, ocorreu uma mudança inesperada com o nome do grupo que, até então se chamava apenas . Conseguindo já bastante popularidade nos Estados Unidos e em grande parte da Europa, ficam sabendo que esse nome já pertencia a um outro grupo de música eletrônica da Irlanda e para evitar maiores problemas, acrescentam o número . O significado desse número já foi muito especulado. Uma das mais conhecidas é que esse número faz referência ao número de vezes que o ator Al Pacino diz a palavra Fuck no filme "Scarface", porém a própria banda insiste em manter o motivo do sufixo em segredo. Em 1998 o baterista Scott Raynor é substituído por , e o blink volta ao estúdio para gravar o "Enema of the State", primeiro álbum em que Travis participa. Após lançarem mais dois álbuns ("Take Off Your Pants And Jacket", em 2001, e "blink-182", em 2003), no dia 22 de Fevereiro de 2005, a banda anunciou um hiato por tempo indeterminado. Mark Hoppus e Travis Barker seguiram com o +44 e Tom DeLonge formou o Angels & Airwaves. Em 20 de setembro de 2008, o baterista Travis Barker sofreu um grave acidente de avião que matou quatro das seis pessoas que estavam à bordo. Entre os sobreviventes estavam Travis e seu amigo DJ AM. Os dois tinham um projeto chamado TRV$DJAM. Por causa desse acidente, Tom DeLonge voltou a falar com Mark e Travis, e no dia 8 de Fevereiro de 2009, após quase 4 anos separados, o trio apareceu em público novamente no e anunciou que voltariam a tocar juntos, deixando todas as brigas de lado. Because of this accident, Tom DeLonge spoke again with Mark and Travis, and on February 8, 2009, after nearly separated four years, the trio appeared in public again at the Grammy Awards and announced they would play together, leaving all next fights. A banda teve início em maio de 1998, quando Zakk Wylde chama o baterista Phil Ondich recomendado por seu amigo Nick Catanese para tocar com ele em um concerto solo na Itália, Zakk e Phil decidiram chamar a banda de "" (bairro de periferia de Nova York) e o seu primeiro álbum de "Sonic Brewery". Entretanto, por não conseguirem uma marca registrada para "Hell's Kitchen", o nome da banda foi trocado por Black Label Society, e o nome do primeiro álbum mudado para "". Após o lançamento do segundo álbum da banda, (2000), DeServio decide deixar a banda para ir atrás de outros objetivos pessoais e a vaga foi preenchida por Steve "S.O.B." Gibb, filho de Berry Gibb dos BeeGees. Phil passou por alguns problemas de saúde, o que interferia negativamente nos shows da banda, e foi então substituído por Craig Nunenmacher (Crowbar, banda em turnê com o BLS). Black Label Society is a band of Heavy / Sludge / Southern Metal raised in Los Angeles, USA by Zakk Wylde, former guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne. The band began in May 1998 when Zakk Wylde calls the drummer Phil Ondich recommended by his friend Nick Catanese to play with him in a solo concert in Italy, Zakk and Phil decided to call the band "Hell's Kitchen" (low income suburb New York) and his first album "Sonic Brewery". However, for failing a trademark for "Hell's Kitchen", the band's name was changed to Black Label Society, and the name of the first album changed to "Sonic Brew". After the release of the second album, Stronger Than Death (2000), DeServio decides to leave the band to pursue other personal goals and the vacancy was filled by Steve "SOB" Gibb, son of Berry Gibb of the BeeGees. Phil has had some health problems, which interfered negatively in the shows of the band, and was replaced by Craig Nunenmacher (Crowbar, band touring with BLS). In July 2000, Craig recorded his debut album in Black Label Society: alcohol fueled brewtality Live. Steve Gibb was temporarily replaced by Mike Inez of Alice in Chains during the tour of Ozzfest 2001. Robert Trujillo took the low-band lines in 2002, releasing the album that originally would be called "Deathcore Warmachine Eternal", however, due to events of September 11, 2001 the CD was released under another name, "1919 Eternal", on 5 March 2002. In 2003, Trujillo joined Metallica, leaving open the bassist spot in Black Label Society, which gave space for Inez back the band for a short tour of two weeks, with the album The Blessed Hellride, which contains a song with special guest Ozzy, entitled "Stillborn". James Lomenzo joined the band in 2004, participating in the recording of some tracks on the album Hangover Music Vol. VI, the last band released by Spitfire Records. In 2005, after signing with Artemis Records, the Mafia was released. After the album's release, Lomenzo returned to Megadeth and was replaced by original bassist John DeServio.
