Estreou na carreira solo em 1984.Foi integrante do Grupo Originais do Samba no início de sua carreira e atuou em discos de outros artistas como músico de cavaquinho. Em 1984, realizou turnês no Equador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras e Japão. Neste mesmo ano, gravou seu primeiro LP independente, com destaque para a música "Jessica", que alcançou grande sucesso. Em 1985 e 1987, lançou o segundo e o terceiro LPs pela Gravadora Copacabana. O quarto LP foi lançado pelo próprio selo, Biru's Produções. Neste disco, destacaram-se as músicas: "Tudo e nada", "Conselho de amigo" e "Procura". Em 1995, realizou nova turnê de seis meses em Tóquio, com sua banda , onde começou a preparar o quinto CD, "Essência", no qual foram gravadas 14 músicas, sendo oito delas grandes sucessos extraídos dos quatro LPs anteriores lançados pelo artista. O CD contou com a participação de grandes músicos e compositores na elaboração, e ainda a participação de Adilson Caveira (irmão de Biro) cantando a música "Aguadente".
