Peter Tosh (nasceu no dia 19 de outubro de 1944 – faleceu no dia 11 de setembro de 1987) foi um pioneiro músico de reggae/ska. Militante, bem-instruído e encrenqueiro, Tosh era o Malcolm X da personalidade estilo Martin Luther King representada por Bob Marley. Batizado Winston Hubert McIntosh, ele cresceu em Kingston, Jamaica, na favela de Trenchtown. Embora seu pavio curto o metesse frequentemente em confusões, o jovem McIntosh começou a cantar e a tocar guitarra bem cedo, inspirado pelas estações americanas que ele conseguia sintonizar em seu rádio. No começo dos anos 60 ele conheceu Bob Marley e Bunny Livingston, formando o grupo Wailing Wailers. Depois que Marley retornou dos Estados Unidos em 1966, os três passaram a se envolver com a religião Rastafari, mudando o nome da banda para The Wailers. Eles conseguem um contrato com a Island Records, lançando Catch a Fire em 1972 e Burnin em 1973. Neste mesmo ano, Tosh se envolve em um sério acidente automobilístico. Seu carro cai de uma ponte, matando sua namorada e deixando Tosh com uma fratura grave no crânio. Ele sobrevive, mas torna-se uma pessoa ainda mais difícil de se lidar. Depois que o presidente da Island, Chris Blackwell, recusa-se a lançar seu disco solo em 1974, Tosh e Bunny deixam os Wailers, citando o tratamento injusto que recebiam de Blackwell, que Tosh chamava de "pior que os brancos". Logo depois do lançamento de No Nuclear War em 1987, que ganhou o premio de album de reggae do ano, Peter Tosh foi assasinado com dois tiros na cabeça em sua propria casa, existe uma conspiração sobre seu assasinato, algumas versões culpam a CIA, pois foi provado que ela monitorava Peter Tosh alem de outros cantores rastas como bob marley.
