Mandisa Lynn Hundley nasceu e foi criada em Citrus Heights, Califórnia. Mandisa Lynn Hundley was born and raised in Citrus Heights, California. Mandisa auditioned for American Idol talent show at the competition in Chicago. She referred to herself as "just Mandisa," so it was announced simply as Mandisa on the show. She said her musical influences range from Whitney Houston to Def Leppard. Idol show on March 7, 2006, she sang a Chaka Khan version "I'm Every Woman", which received praise from all three judges. She was among the 12 contestants chosen on March 9, 2006, as a finalist on the fifth season of Idol. Mandisa was eliminated from American Idol on April 5, 2006, the Top 9, having never been in the bottom three (she was there with Paris Bennett and Elliott Yamin, none of whom had been at the bottom or 3). On July 27, 2007, after being eliminated from American Idol, Mandisa performed the song "I Do not Hurt Anymore" in TV talk show, Live with Regis and Kelly.
