Joe Satriani começou a carreira tocando bateria. Porém, após a morte de Jimi Hendrix, começou a tocar guitarra. Satriani foi professor de alguns guitarristas famosos em todo o mundo, tais como: Alex Skolnick, Kirk Hammett e Steve Vai. Teve também uma relação curiosa com Steve Vai sendo que Satriani ensinou Steve a colocar cordas em uma ponte de guitarra modelo Floyd Rose. Em 1984 Satriani gravou um EP com o seu próprio nome contendo 5 músicas em que havia apenas guitarras. Steve Vai, seu amigo e ex-aluno, consegue para Joe um contrato com a Relativity Records, e na mesma época lança seu primeiro álbum: "Not of This Earth". A sua fama porém veio com o disco "Surfing with the Alien". Álbum que lhe rendeu milhões de vendas ao redor do mundo e sua primeira indicação ao Grammy. Em dezembro de 1993, após a saída de Ritchie Blackmore do Deep Purple, ele juntou-se à banda e participou da turnê internacional pelo Japão. Com o sucesso dos shows, Satriani foi convidado pelos demais integrantes para permanecer como membro efetivo dela, mas declinou, mais preocupado com sua carreira solo e com o contrato para um multi-álbum assinado com a Sony. Mas antes disso, ainda chegou a participar da turnê européia como guitarrista da banda em 1994, fazendo seu último show em julho, na Áustria. Em 1996, criou junto com Steve Vai a turnê G3, na qual participa todos os anos desde então ao lado de outros grandes guitarristas virtuosos, como Michael Schenker, Eric Johnson, Andy Timmons, Robert Fripp, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Leslie West, Yngwie Malmsteen, gravando cds e Dvds de algumas apresentações. Joe conseguiu, num mundo dominado pelo pop, ser um dos guitarristas mais bem sucedidos no rock instrumental dos últimos tempos, vendendo milhões de álbuns, esgotando regularmente a lotação nos seus concertos. Seu nome verdadeiro é Militana Salustino do Nascimento, mas ficou conhecida em todo o Brasil como Dona Mlitana. Ela chegou a gravar um CD com o título “Cantares”. Considerada a maior romancista de todo o Brasil esta humilde mulher de São Gonçalo do Amarante (RN) gravou na memória todos os cantos aprendidos do pai, entre eles romances que contam histórias de reis, princesas e guerreiros. O nome de Dona Militana entrou em uma disputa acirrada com o nome do ex ministro e ex governador do RN Aluizio Alves, o motivo diz respeito ao nome que será batizado o aeroporto de São Gonçalo. Potiguares, internautas, jornalistas e até críticos da imprensa nacional defendem o nome de Dona Militana como o ideal para batizar o novo aeroporto do nosso estado.
