O Waysted foi um ambicioso projeto que visava ganhar uma parte do novo mercado que estava se abrindo, o hoje chamado hard oitentista. O mentor e cabeça do projeto foi Pete Way, lendário baixista do UFO. A idéia surgiu quando Pete foi convidado a participar do projeto de Eddie Clarke, ex-Motorhead que estava montando uma banda de hard rock no melhor estilo comercial. Pete percebeu o quanto a idéia era boa e decidiu formar a sua própria banda, onde ele poderia dar as cartas. A banda deles se chamaria Fastway. Apesar de Pete abandonar a idéia, a banda de Eddie Clarke continuou se chamando Fastway e a de Pete curiosamente se chamou Waysted. Ao contrário do Fastway, o Waysted despontou na Inglaterra com o tecladista Paul Raymond (Ex-UFO), o batera Frank Noon (ex-Def Leppard) e o vocalista Ian Muir. Não tardou para a banda conseguir uma gravadora. A Chrysallis ofereceu um contrato para um disco experimental. “Vices” (1983), trazia bons momentos como “Toy with the Passion” e o cover de “Somebody to Love” do Jefferson Airplane. A banda foi se desfazendo aos poucos; o primeiro a sair foi o tecladista que foi convocado por Dio ... O resto da banda se separou e o que conseguiu um maior destaque foi Johny DiTeodora que entrou no Britny Fox. [Fonte:Whiplash]

Filho de Irinéia e Jessé, Zeca nasceu em Irajá onde desde pequeno passou a frequentar rodas de samba influenciado por sua família. Morou em vários bairros do Rio mas sempre demonstrou enorme apreço por Xerém (distrito de Duque de Caxias), na qual possui um sítio e uma escola de música para crianças carentes da região. Fez aulas de capoeira com Mestre João Professor. Adolescente, começou a participar das rodas de samba e partido-alto do subúrbio, sendo integrante do bloco carnavalesco Bohemio de Irajá. Trabalhou como anotador de jogo do bicho. Recebeu o apelido de "Pagodinho" quando freqüentava os pagodes na casa de Tia Doca, em Madureira. Freqüentou a roda de samba do Bloco Cacique de Ramos, onde começou a ser admirado pelos seus versos e por sua capacidade de improvisar. Por essa época, conheceu Arlindo Cruz, futuro parceiro em grandes sucessos. Sua primeira gravação foi em 1983, com o samba "Camarão que dorme a onda leva", de sua autoria e de Arlindo Cruz, a partir do convite de sua madrinha Beth Carvalho. Em 2003, no auge de sua carreira, foi o primeiro artista de Samba a gravar um especial de TV, cd e dvd pela MTV Brasil (tradicional reduto do pop rock). O Acústico MTV, gravado no Rio, foi um de seus discos mais vendidos, rendendo inclusive uma segunda edição em 2006 (a primeira da história da MTV Brasil). O segundo acústico, batizado de Acústico MTV Zeca Pagodinho 2 - Gafieira, homenageou o samba de gafieira. Em 2007, o cantor criou o selo ZecaPagodiscos, em parceria com o produtor musical Max Pierre, ex-diretor artístico da Universal Music no Brasil. O primeiro trabalho da parceria (lançado em conjunto com o selo Música Fabril, novo selo de Max, com distribuição da gravadora EMI) foi o cd e dvd Cidade do Samba, gravado na Cidade do Samba, reunindo vários artistas brasileiros de vários estilos musicais, como Martinho da Vila, Jair Rodrigues, Cláudia Leitte, Ivete Sangalo Nando Reis, Erasmo Carlos, Gilberto Gil, entre outros.
