A história da banda começa com os irmãos Andria e Ivan Busic formando suas primeiras bandas, Platina (1984) e Cherokee (1988), respectivamente. Em 1989, tocam como banda de apoio na gravação do disco solo do recém saído guitarrista da banda Radio Taxi Wander Taffo. Dois anos depois, é formada a banda Taffo, agora não mais como um solo de Wander Taffo, mas sim como uma banda. Gravam o belíssimo CD Rosa Branca. Como convidado, Andria sai em turnê com a banda Ultraje a Rigor. Os Busic juntam-se a Eduardo Ardanuy, que já havia tocado em bandas como Anjos da Noite e Chave do Sol. Tornam-se a banda de apoio do vocalista Supla (ex-Tokyo). Após um disco e alguns shows, o trio decidiu que era hora de investir na própria carreira. Já com o nome de Dr. Sin, viajam aos Estados Unidos para distribuir e divulgar seu trabalho, agendando até algumas apresentações. Em 1992, assinam um contrato com a multinacional Warner Music. Em 1993, o festival Hollywood Rock atraia milhares de fãs do bom e velho rock, o Dr. Sin toca na mesma noite de bandas como Nirvana e L7. Abrem também o show do vocalista do Deep Purple, Ian Gillan. Neste mesmo ano, a Warner lança o álbum Dr. Sin em 9 países, obtendo ótima repercussão. A faixa Emotional Catastrophe obteve grande sucesso nas paradas musicais, veiculação de clipes na MTV, e acabou virando parte da trilha sonora do seriado brasileiro da TV Cultura chamado Confissões de Adolescente. Há quase um ano, Roberto Maia investe em sua carreira. Mas diferentemente de outros de sua geração, ele trilhou um caminho um tanto incomum: quis primeiro ficar conhecido na internet para depois chegar às rádios. Tanto é que o cantor, que se denomina romântico, só se apresentou ao vivo uma vez, em novembro do ano passado, para plateia lotada em São Paulo. Fez o show porque tinha reunido a impressionante marca de um milhão de seguidores no Facebook, uma meta que tornou-se pessoal desde que resolveu se lançar como artista. Roberto Maia formou-se em direito, mas já tinha uma carreira musical que, entre uma apresentação em bar e outra, também tem anexa ao seu "currículo" uma turnê com Sérgio Reis, um de seus grandes ídolos. De família tradicional paulistana, mas com alma de caipira, como ele diz em seu slogan oficial, o cantor conta que todo mundo se assustou quando disse que seguiria a carreira musical. "Falei que não ia mais seguir o direito, foi um susto para todo mundo. Na minha família não tem nenhum músico. Era uma área desconhecida para eles e para mim. Eles se preocupavam porque eu estava largando uma coisa garantida por uma incerta. Mas para mim era certo". Apesar disso, os pais de Maia eram amigos de cantores como Leandro e Leonardo, e a infância passada boa parte na fazenda - aos finais de semana e nas férias - o ajudou a ter contato com o sertanejo de raiz. Para começar a fazer sucesso nas redes, Roberto Maia teve como inspiração alguns cantores, como Adele e Justin Bieber, que também começaram suas carreiras com pequenos vídeos pessoais no You Tube e depois estouraram no mundo inteiro. Para isso, teve a ajuda de um de seus empresários, o publicitário Renato Gil, que "organizou" o campo de guerra. Os frutos começaram a ser colhidos, já no meio do ano, quando ele passou a ser reconhecido também em alguns lugares que frequentava. Desde então, dedicou-se 100% a música. Junto com o trabalho de divulgação, veio o disco de 12 faixas, que não é comercializado, mas enviado arduamente para pessoas da imprensa e, principalmente para fãs. "Postava como carta social e mandava. Cheguei a mandar uns 10 mil no correio", diz.
