Azymuth é um trio brasileiro de diversas influências, fundado em 1970 no Rio de Janeiro. Suas músicas são “fusion” de forte personalidade. O grupo surgiu no início com o nome Grupo Seleção, tocando basicamente covers. Em 73 mudaram o nome para Azymuth (inspirados em uma música com esse nome, de Marcos e Paulo Sérgio Valle) e dois anos depois lançaram o primeiro disco, “Azymuth”, que inclui a música “Linha do Horizonte”, incluída na trilha sonora de uma novela. Em 1976 gravam “Melô da Cuíca”, um compacto que estourou nacionalmente. Outro grande sucesso dos anos 70 foi “Jazz Carnival”, do disco “Light As A Feather”, de 1978. Mudaram-se para os Estados Unidos no princípio dos anos 80 e lançaram vários discos que não saíram no Brasil, apostando num estilo batizado de MPB-jazz, que mistura samba, funk e jazz. Uma das exceções lançadas no Brasil é “21 Anos”, de 1996.
