Paulistana descendente de americanos e italianos, estudou piano clássico com a professora Magdalena Tagliaferro mas logo abandonou a música erudita, passando a tocar bateria em festas do colégio durante a adolescência. Mais tarde aprendeu a tocar baixo, criou um conjunto vocal feminino e, em meados dos anos 60 conheceu os irmãos Arnaldo e Sérgio Dias Baptista, com quem formou um dos grupos mais importantes para o rock brasileiro, Os Mutantes. Lançou um disco solo em 1970 ("Build Up"), mas permaneceu com Os Mutantes até o fim de 1972, quando se desligou permanentemente do grupo. Seguiu-se um período de reclusão, do qual saiu com a banda Tutti-Frutti, que gravou sucessos como "Ovelha Negra", "Agora Só Falta Você", "Esse Tal de Roque Enrow", "Miss Brasil 2000" e "Jardins da Babilônia". Em 1976, cumpriu um ano de prisão domiciliar por porte de maconha, gravando em seguida o compacto "Doce de Pimenta" com Elis Regina e participando da turnê e do disco "Refestança" com Gilberto Gil. Depois de complicações com suas bandas passou a gravar com o marido, o guitarrista Roberto de Carvalho, e da união saíram grandes hits, como "Mania de Você" (79), "Lança Perfume" (80, "Saúde" (81), "Flagra" (82), "On The Rocks" (83), que apresentavam outra faceta da compositora Rita Lee, destacando-se ora como boa "popeira" ora como boa baladeira. Na década de 80 rumores sobre sua saúde abalaram a carreira da cantora, e problemas pessoais a mantiveram afastada dos palcos por algum tempo. Voltou à cena em 1985 com "Rita e Roberto" e dois anos depois "Flerte Fatal" não foi bem-aceito pela crítica, o que desencadeou uma crise na dupla. Passou um tempo trabalhando em cinema e televisão, como atriz e apresentadora. Em 1990 teve ótima vendagem com seu CD "Bossa'n'Roll", acústico. Cinco anos depois fez o show de abertura dos Rolling Stones no Brasil. Em 1997 foi a homenageada do prêmio Sharp de música e lançou outros discos no fim da década de 90, excursionando por todo o Brasil. Outros de seus sucessos foram "Mamãe Natureza", "Menino Bonito", "Ando Jururú", "Arrombou a festa", "Baila Comigo", "Chega Mais", Cor-de-rosa Choque", "Desculpe o Auê", "Caso Sério", "Bwana" e "Orra Meu". Em 1998 gravam o platinado "Acústico MTV", onde além de nova releitura de seus maiores sucessos, conta também com convidados especiais como Milton Nascimento, Titãs, Paula Toller e Cássia Eller. E em 2000, volta ao bom e velho rock'n'roll, lançando "3001", produzido por Roberto de Carvalho, que em novembro de 2001 é contemplado com o Grammy Latino na categoria "melhor disco de rock". Em janeiro de 2002, estreou a turnê do show "Yê Yê Yê de Bamba", baseada no disco "Aqui, Ali, em Qualquer Lugar", um disco de releituras bem autênticas de canções dos Beatles. A turnê percorreu todo o Brasil e alguns países da América Latina com grande sucesso. Em outubro de 2003, Rita Lee lança 'Balacobaco'. O disco, produzido por Roberto de Carvalho, é composto por 11 faixas inéditas incluindo "Amor e Sexo", um hit radifônico, parceria da cantora com Roberto de Carvalho, e com o jornalista e cineasta Arnaldo Jabor. Depois do bem-sucedido “Balacobaco”, Rita lança “MTV ao vivo”, com Roberto de Carvalho, assinando a produção e arranjos, além de sua presença nas guitarras e no vocal durante o show. Gravado em São Paulo, em agosto de 2004, pela EMI Music, o disco conta ainda com a presença de Pitty e Zélia Duncan, além de uma regravação de “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” e uma versão de “I Wanna Be Sedated” (“Eu quero ser sedado”), dos Ramones. Radish é uma banda de Rock Alternativo, auto-rotulada de "Sugar Metal" formada em 1992 por Ben Kweller, John David Kent e Ryan Green. O trio tocou localmente dentro da cidade de Greenville e ao redor dela. A banda lançou dois álbuns independentes, Hello em 1994, e Dizzy em 1995, com Martin Baird no estúdio Verge Music Works, em Dallas, no Texas. Depois do lançamento de Dizzy, Ryan Green sai da banda para se focar mais no colégio. Lorin Hamilton ficou na banda por alguns meses até Bryan Blur se juntar como sendo o baixista da banda pela maior parte da carreira da banda. Em 1998 o Radish se torna um quarteto com a presença de Joe Butcher, do Polyphonic Spree, como um dos guitarristas e Debbie Williams no baixo. A banda vai até o Muscle Shoals Studio em Alabama para lançar o musicalmente ambicioso sucessor de Restraining Bolt, intitulado Discount Fireworks. A banda grava com o produtor Bryce Goggin (que já produziu bandas como Pavement e o Lemonheads). Enquanto mixavam Discount Fireworks em New York Kweller e Kent conheceram o baixista Josh Lattanzi que se tornaria o quinto e último baixista do Radish. Devido a fusão da PolyGram com a Universal Music Group, o álbum com 18 faixas nunca foi lançado e o Radish conseguiu uma liberação do contrato com a Mercury. After living in Connecticut for a few months, the couple decides to move to Brooklyn, New York, where Kweller begin his solo career and signing contract with ATO Records in 2001. Returning to Texas, John Kent began writing songs for their own and formed the band Pony League now does not exist anymore, but now John Kent is band leader John David Kent and the Dumb Angels.
