Grupo instrumental formado pelos irmãos Kiko (piano e teclados), Jorge (saxofones) e Alberto (contrabaixos). Sua experiência vem dos ensinamentos do pai, o instrumentista Mauro Continentino, e das noites do Pianíssimo Studio Bar, casa de jazz estabelecida em Belo Horizonte (MG), concebida e administrada por Mauro nos anos 1980. O repertório é constituído de composições e arranjos assinados pelos três integrantes. Influenciados pelo jazz e por ritmos africanos e brasileiros, sobretudo o samba, transitam também pelo pop, rock e funk. Os três irmãos atuam também individualmente, em "gigs" instrumentais e acompanhando outros artistas, dentre eles Milton Nascimento (Kiko), Skank (Jorge) e Caetano Veloso (Alberto). A banda conta, ainda, com a participação de André Queiroz e Cacá Colón revezando-se na bateria e, eventualmente, com a participação de Mauro Continentino. O grupo estreou em 2000 no Teatro Sesi-Minas de Belo Horizonte, em show gravado em vídeo pela TV Minas. Ainda nesse ano, participou do Festival de Jazz de Tiradentes e apresentou-se em vários bares e casas noturnas de Belo Horizonte, como o Café com Letras, e do Rio de Janeiro, como o Mika's Bar. Instrumental group formed by brothers Kiko (piano and keyboards), Jorge (saxophones) and Alberto (basses). His experience comes from his father's teachings, the instrumentalist Mauro Continentino, and nights of Pianíssimo Studio Bar, jazz club established in Belo Horizonte (MG), designed and run by Mauro in the 1980s The repertoire consists of compositions and arrangements signed by three members. Influenced by jazz and African and Brazilian rhythms, especially the samba, transit also for pop, rock and funk. The three brothers also act individually, in "gigs" instrumental and accompanying other artists, including Milton Nascimento (Kiko), Skank (Jorge) and Caetano Veloso (Alberto). The band also counts with the participation of André Queiroz and Cacá Colón taking turns on drums and, eventually, with the participation of Mauro Continentino. The group debuted in 2000 at Sesi-Mines Theatre in Belo Horizonte, in concert recorded on video by TV Gerais. In the same year, he participated in the Tiradentes Jazz Festival and performed in various bars and nightclubs in Belo Horizonte, like Café com Letras, and Rio de Janeiro, as Mika's Bar. Ao longo de sua carreira Big Joe Manfra procurou uma sonoridade que tivesse sua marca pessoal. Tomando a frente dos vocais a partir do segundo CD, buscou não se restringir ao blues tradicional, aliando a energia de seu lado rock e a influência do jazz em seus arranjos ao estilo nascido no Mississipi. Seu inconfundível sotaque bluesy levou o gaitista americano Peter “Madcat” Ruth a recrutá-lo durante os últimos cinco anos para sua tour, que resultou no CD “Live in Rio”. Durante anos na estrada, se apresentou na Argentina e em festivais de norte a sul do Brasil ao lado dos grandes nomes do blues brasileiro, como Celso Blues Boy, Blues Etílicos, Nuno Mindelis, Baseado em Blues, Big Alanbik; do blues americano como Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers, Tommy Castro, Chicago Blues Ladies; além de dividir o palco com nomes internacionais como Stanley Jordan, Roy Rogers, Grant Green Jr., Norton Buffalo, Michael Hill, Peter Madcat e Jamie Wood. Ao lado de Jefferson Gonçalves fundou o selo Blues Time Records (hoje o principal e mais importante do blues no Brasil); e o trio acústico Blues Etc., cujo CD foi indicado como finalista na categoria ‘Língua Estrangeira’ do ‘Prêmio Caras de Música 2002’. Big Joe Manfra também é colaborador da revista Backstage e endorser dos pedais Danelectro (distribuída pela Sonotec), uma das mais tradicionais marcas de instrumentos musicais do mundo.
