Machine Head é uma banda de Thrash Metal / Heavy Metal, formada em 1992 em Oakland, Califórnia. Seus membros originais são: Robb Flynn (Voz, Guitarra), Logan Mader (Guitarra), Adam Duce (Baixo, Voz Secundária) e Chris Kontos (Bateria). Algumas bandas que influenciam o Machine Head são : Black Sabbath, Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Testament… Seu primeiro álbum, chamado Burn My Eyes (1994), foi consagrado pelos fãs e crítica. Tendo várias faixas que tornaram-se verdadeiros hinos para fãs deste estilo músical. Como por exemplo: “Davidian”, “Old” e “None But My Own”. Com o lançamento de seu primeiro álbum a banda foi chamada de “filhos do Slayer”, pelo peso e a notável influência que esta banda exercia sobre eles. Lançarem seu segundo álbum The More Things Change em 1997. Este novo álbum foi marcado com uma nova fase da banda. As músicas eram mais agressivas e com uma certa pitada de hardcore. “The More Things Change” fez muito sucesso com os fãs da banda também, com destaque para as músicas “Ten Ton Hammer” e “Take My Scars”. Em 1998 inesperadamente o guitarrista Logan Mader saiu da banda e foi substituído por Ahrue Luster. Com um novo guitarrista a banda lançou em 1999 um novo álbum, entitulado The Burning Red. Este foi, talvez o álbum mais polêmico da banda. Seu estilo havia mudado bastante. Havia forte influência de new metal, com vocais de rap e bases de guitarra mais simples. Mas em compensação foi o álbum da banda que a tornou mais conhecida do grande público. Talvez por apresentar as músicas de uma forma mais popular. Este álbum conta com clássicos do Machine Head, como “The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears”, “From This Day” e “The Burning Red”. Em 2002 o guitarrista Ahrue Luster largou a banda e foi substituído por Phil Demmel que já havia tocado com Robb Flynn na banda Violence. Então em 2003 foi lançado o álbum Hellalive gravado ao vivo na Brixton Academy, em Londres que contém os maiores sucessos da banda tocados ao vivo. Ainda em 2003 o álbum Through the Ashes of Empires foi lançado na europa, e depois em 2004 foi lançado nos Estados Unidos. Through the Ashes of Empires foi uma verdadeira volta às raízes do Machine Head. Com o peso e a agressividade de volta ao estilo músical este disco é considerado por muitos como o melhor da banda desde Burn My Eyes. In 2002 guitarist Ahrue Luster quit the band and was replaced by Phil Demmel who had previously played with Robb Flynn on Violence band. So in 2003 it launched the Hellalive album recorded live at the Brixton Academy in London which contains the greatest hits played live . In 2003 the album Through the Ashes of Empires was released in Europe , and then in 2004 was released in the United States . Through the Ashes of Empires was a true back to the roots of Machine Head . With the weight and aggression back to the musical style this album is considered by many as the best band since Burn My Eyes . Formada em Atlanta em 1986, a banda de hard e southern rock, Drivin N Cryin, nunca foi bem sucedida nacionalmente, mas reinou suprema na região durante a sua existência. Originalmente composta pelo cantor e compositor Kevn Kinney na guitarra e vocal, Tim Nielsen no baixo e Paul Lenz na bateria, o disco de estréia da banda foi o atemporal “Scarred But Smarter” (1986), fundindo hard rock e bluegrass, lançado pelo selo 688 Records, que cresceu junto com a boate punk homônima de Atlanta. A banda continuou com “Whisper Tames The Lions”, de 1988, entrando Jeff Sullivan no lugar de Lenz. Havia grande expectativa em torno da banda na época, devido ao sucesso do R.E.M.; tudo que era southern estava pronto para se tornar a próxima atração. Mas o southern singular da Drivin N Cryin acabou se perdendo do resto do mundo. Perseverando com “Mystery Road”, já adicionada do ex-guitarrista de turnês da R.E.M., Buren Fowler, a banda não alterou muito o seu estilo. Já no disco seguinte, “Fly Me Courageous” (1990), o grupo finalmente vestiu o manto do heavy metal (comentário meu: a afirmação é estranhíssima; afinal de contas, o som da banda nunca chegou perto do gênero; acho que heavy metal foi empregado no texto mais no sentido de hard rock, como se comprova com a sequência da frase) e gerou um bom disco de hard rock, associado a uma extravagante trilha folk. O resultado foi talvez chocante mas meio fora de moda para os padrões da música alternativa da época. A grande força da Drivin N Cryin advinha da sua atuação ao vivo, e foi assim que a banda percorreu incansavelmente o sul do país, atraindo um entusiasmado público universitário. Um show da Drivin N Cryin em Atlanta tinha que ser visto para se acreditar no que ali se passava - o som da multidão cantando junto suprimia realmente a voz excepcionalmente forte de Kinney. Naquele mesmo ano, Kinney gravou o belo LP de folk acústico, “MacDougal Blues”, para o selo Island. O disco “Smoke”, da Drivin N Cryin, foi lançado em 1993 pela Island e selou o fim da relação da banda com a gravadora. Foi seguido por outro álbum solo ainda mais despojado de Kinney, “Down Out Law” (Mammoth), de 1994. Ele acompanhou o seu lançamento solo excursionando com o guitarrista da R.E.M., Peter Buck, que produziu o seu primeiro disco, enquanto ele e a banda também preenchiam a lacuna entre o quinto e o sexto álbuns do grupo, com shows acústicos por todo o sul do país. Gov’t Mule é uma banda de southern rock/jam formada em 1994 pelo guitarrista Warren Haynes e o baixista Allen Woody, da The Allman Brothers Band, que juntaram-se a Matt Abts, baterista. A idéia inicial era apenas um projeto paralelo ao Allman Brothers que revivesse os famosos power-trios das décadas de 60 e 70. A primeira apresentação da banda aconteceu em maio de 1994 no The Palamino, Hollywood, com um repertório que mesclava composições próprias com alguns covers que ganhavam uma roupagem totalmente diferente, característica que a banda preserva até hoje. Outra característica do Gov’t Mule é praticamente não repetir os sets dos shows, sempre apresentando uma novidade. Em 1995 lançam seu primeiro álbum (Gov’t Mule) gravado praticamente ao vivo no estúdio com exceção de alguns poucos over-dubs citados no encarte. Os shows passam a ser cada vez mais concorridos e, em 1996, lançam seu primeiro álbum ao vivo, “Live At Roseland Ballroom”. Ainda em 1996 vem ao Brasil para o Nescafé & Blues Festival, se apresentando em São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro e Porto Alegre. No mesmo ano Warren Haynes é eleito pela segunda vez consecutiva “The Best Slide Guitarrist” pela Guitar Player americana. Em 2000 lançam o terceiro álbum de estúdio, “Life Before Insanity”. Porém, em agosto do mesmo ano, Allen Woody é encontrado morto na suíte de um hotel em New York. Em 2001 é lançado “Deep End- Part I” com participações de John Entwistle, Flea, Jack Bruce e Roger Glover entre outros. Finalmente, em 2003, foi gravado e filmado em New Orleans um show com mais de 5 horas de duração com diversos convidados. Lars Johann Yngwie Lannerback nasceu em Estocolmo, Suécia em 30 de junho de 1963. Teve aulas de piano e trompete e aos cinco anos ganhou seu primeiro violão. Estudando primeiro com uma velha guitarra Mosrite e depois com uma guitarra Stratocaster, Yngwie entrou no rock influenciado por bandas como Deep Purple. Sua admiração pelas influências clássicas de Ritchie Blackmore levaram-no a conhecer Bach, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mozart e Paganini, entre outros compositores. Malmsteen detém o chamado ouvido absoluto que é a capacidade de distinguir notas musicais seja qual for a fonte, capacidade que poucos possuem no cenário musical. Ainda bem criança, Yngwie chegou a ter aulas de piano e trompete, contudo de forma inútil, inclusive, por volta de seus cinco anos de idade, sua mãe lhe presenteou com um violão, o qual, também, acabou encostado. Entretanto, no dia 18 de Setembro de 1970, essa história tomou novo rumo, quando, aos sete anos de idade, o menino Yngwie assistiu um especial na TV sobre a morte do guitarrista Jimi Hendrix. O garoto espantou-se como Hendrix emocionava o público com toneladas de feedback, oferecendo em sacrifício sua guitarra. Fatalmente, o que lhe chamou a atenção nem foi tanto a técnica de Hendrix, mas sim o momento em que ele pôs fogo em sua guitarra, após quebrá-la. A partir daí, o menino Yngwie mergulhou de cabeça no som de bandas como o “Deep Purple” e utilizou toda sua curiosidade e persistência para descobrir os segredos das composições. Assim, no começo de 1983, logo que se mudou para os EUA, ele entrou para a banda. O “Steeler” havia lançado um single, chamado “Cold Day Hell”, em vinil de 45rpm, com a seguinte formação: Ron Keel (vocal e guitarra), Michael Dunigan (guitarra solo), Tim Morrison (baixo) e Bobby Eva (bateria). Logo após esse single, Bobby Eva, Tim Morrison e Michael Dunigan saíram da banda e em seus lugares entraram Mark Edwards (bateria), Rick Fox (baixo) e Yngwie Malmsteen (guitarra solo). A nova formação lançou, em 1983, o primeiro álbum da banda, Steeler. Após alguns shows de promoção deste álbum, a banda encerrou as atividades. Em agosto foi para o recém-formado Alcatrazz, uma banda no estilo do Rainbow e fundada por um ex-Rainbow e ex-Michael Schenker Group, o vocalista Graham Bonnet. O Alcatrazz, com a formação Graham Bonnett (vocais), Malmsteen (guitarra), Gary Shea (baixo), Jan Uvena (bateria) e Jimmi Waldo (teclados), gravou o grande álbum “No Parole from Rock’n’Roll”, lançado no final de 1983. Neste álbum Malmsteen já demonstrava como seriam suas futuras composições, já que é possível perceber alguns solos incendiários como, "Kree Nakoorie", "Jet To Jet", e "Hiroshima Mon Amour". Contudo, Malmsteen ainda se sentia limitado, sendo assim, o único caminho era se lançar em uma carreira solo. Mas antes de sair do “Alcatrazz”, outro álbum, ao vivo, foi lançado em 1984, “Live Sentence”. O primeiro álbum solo de Yngwie, Rising Force, saiu em 15 de março de 84, e as faixas contam com duelos seus com o tecladista Jens Johansson (que mais tarde entraria para o Stratovarius). O álbum foi gravado em Los Angeles e a produção foi de Malmsteen. O baterista foi o experiente Barriemore Barlow que tocou no Jethro Tull por dez anos e o vocalista foi Jeff Scott Soto que gravou os vocais em apenas uma única faixa no disco. O baixo foi gravado pelo próprio Malmsteen. Este álbum e atualmente considerado como a Bíblia do rock neoclássico. Ele chegou ao número 60 na lista da “Billboard”, algo muito raro para uma gravação quase que toda instrumental e sem nenhuma música na mídia. O álbum também foi indicado para o “Grammy Awards”, pela melhor interpretação de rock instrumental. Logo, Malmsteen foi eleito em várias revistas como o “melhor guitarrista de rock”, pouco depois de "Rising Force" ser eleito o “álbum do ano”. Lars Johann Yngwie Lannerback was born in Stockholm, Sweden on June 30, 1963. He had piano and trumpet lessons and at age five won his first guitar. Studying first with an old Mosrite guitar and then with a Stratocaster guitar, Yngwie entered rock influenced by bands like Deep Purple. His admiration for the classical influences of Ritchie Blackmore led him to meet Bach, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mozart and Paganini, among other composers. Malmsteen holds the so-called absolute pitch that is the ability to distinguish musical notes whatever the source, capacity that few possess in the music scene. As a child, Yngwie even had piano and trumpet lessons, but in a useless way, even around the age of five, his mother presented him with a guitar, which he also ended up leaning against. However, on September 18, 1970, this story took a new turn when, at the age of seven, Yngwie the boy watched a TV special about the death of guitarist Jimi Hendrix. The boy was amazed how Hendrix thrilled the audience with tons of feedback, offering up his guitar. Marco Pereira é natural de São Paulo onde fez seus estudos de violão sob a orientação do mestre uruguaio Isaias Sávio no Conservatório Dramático e Musical de São Paulo. Viveu na França por cinco anos; recebeu o título de Mestre em Violão pela Université Musicale Internationale de Paris e defendeu tese sobre a música de Heitor Villa-Lobos no Departamento de Musicologia da Universidade de Paris-Sorbonne. Em Paris, recebeu forte influência jazzística e também de música latino-americana, o que caracteriza, especialmente, o seu trabalho de composição. Apresentou-se com grande sucesso no Festival de Jazz de Paris de 1989, o que lhe possibilitou fazer apresentações na Alemanha, França, Suiça, Dinamarca, Canadá e Estados Unidos.
