Sir Elton Hercules John, (Reginald Kenneth Dwight, Grande Londres, 25 de março de 1947) é um premiado cantor, compositor e músico inglês. Nascido Reginald Kenneth Dwight em 25 de março de 1947, cresceu em Pinner em uma council house que pertencia a seus avós maternos. Quando Elton John começou a se interessar pela carreira musical, seu pai, antigo tenente da RAF, tentou o convencer a seguir uma carreira mais convencional. Os pais de Elton eram ambos músicos. Seu pai tocava trompete em uma banda amadora chamada Bob Millar Band, que animava festas formais. Elton John começou a tocar piano com 3 anos de idade e dentro de 1 ano foi selecionado para o “The Skater’s Waltz” de Winifred Atwell. Elton John logo contava com uma rotina agitada de tocar em festas e reuniões de família e começou seus estudos de música aos 7 anos. Elton se tornou um aluno de destaque nas escolas onde estudou música, sendo comparado com Jerry Lee Lewis por seus colegas de classe. Ainda na adolescência, integrou o grupo de blues Bluesology. Em 1967 estabeleceu parceria com o letrista Bernie Taupin, com o qual lançou grande parte de sua obra musical, mantendo-se a parceria até os dias de hoje. Seu nome artístico advem de dois integrantes de sua antiga banda - Elton Dean (saxofonista) e Long John Baldry (líder da banda). A carreira de Elton John atravessa a quarta década de ininterrupto sucesso. Nos anos setenta, época que muitos consideram como sendo o auge de sua carreira (foi considerado o segundo artista mais importante dessa década, superado apenas por Paul McCartney), já podia ser considerado como um dos maiores astros de rock do planeta. Apesar de ter lançado o disco Empty Sky em 1969, que não trazia em seu repertório algum imediato sucesso , a guinada de sua carreira ocorreu com o lançamento do disco Elton John, de 1970, que o lançou como cantor de sucesso nos Estados Unidos e trouxe ao público um de seus maiores sucessos, a canção Your Song. Dentre seus discos de maior sucesso, destacam-se Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) e Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975). São também os seus discos mais bem colocados no ranking de melhores discos do século XX elaborado pela revista Rolling Stone. Em 1986, foi sujeito a uma intervenção cirúrgica na garganta, em virtude de lhe ter sido diagnosticado pequenos nódulos nas suas cordas vocais, consequência da quantidade de marijuana que fumava nessa altura. Este facto veio a impor uma mudança profunda na sua voz, que se tornou mais grave e profunda, perdendo por completo o seu famoso falsete. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, grew up in Pinner in a council house that belonged to his maternal grandparents. When Elton John began to get interested in music career, his father, a former lieutenant in the RAF, tried to convince him to follow a more conventional career. Elton's parents were both musicians. His father played trumpet in an amateur band called Bob Millar Band, which animated formal parties. Elton John began playing the piano at three years of age and within 1 year was selected for "The Skater's Waltz" by Winifred Atwell. Elton John just had a hectic playing at parties and family gatherings and began studying music at age 7 routine. Elton became a prominent student in schools where studied music, being compared to Jerry Lee Lewis by his classmates. At age 11, Elton John won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, still one of the most respected musical institutions in the UK. Still a teenager, he joined the group Bluesology blues.
