Nascido na Califórnia, Ben Harper cresceu ouvindo blues, folk, soul, r&b e reggae. Aprendeu a tocar guitarra ainda criança e montou diversas bandas em sua adolescência, sempre influenciado por nomes como: Blues Traveler, Hootie & the Blowfish e Phish. Sua carreira profissional como artista solo começou em 1993 com “Welcome To The Cruel World”. Sempre seguindo um intervalo de dois anos, foram lançados “Fight For Your Mind” (1995), “The Will To Live” (1997) e “Burn To Shine” (1999). Em 2004 o californiano estava de volta com um novo trabalho “There Will be a light”. O disco que reúne 11 faixas conta com a participação do grupo gospel Blind Boys of Alabama, que deu ao álbum uma nova roupagem e trouxe elementos da música country, gospel e da soul music. Ben Harper lançou trabalhos que lhe deram o ‘status’ de um dos artistas mais importantes da atualidade. Além de sua música, a aparência e a atitude do músico impressionavam a todos, principalmente em suas performances ao vivo, que não são poucas, já que ele faz em média 150 shows por ano. Foi em função de toda essa consagração que o cantor conquistou ao lado do grupo The Blind Boys of Alabama, o Grammy de melhor álbum de Soul Gospel pelo disco “There Will Be a Light”. Em agosto de 2007: Ben Harper lança o álbum “Lifeline”, centrado no soul acústico americano, respeitando as tradicionais raízes do género. O processo de criação de “Lifeline” começou após o fim da tour de “Both Sides of the Gun”, em meados de Novembro do ano passado. Ben Harper e os, The Innocent Criminals, ficaram concentrados num estúdio de Paris para gravar e mixar o álbum, o que ocorreu em apenas uma semana. Delain é uma banda de Metal Sinfônico formada em Zwolle, Holanda, no ano de 2002, pelo ex-tecladista do Within Temptation, Martijn Westerholt, com Charlotte Wessels nos vocais, Ronald Landa na guitarra, Rob van der Loo no baixo e Sander Zoer na bateria. No ano de 2001, Martijn Westerholt descobriu que sofria da doença de Pfeiffer e saiu da banda Within Temptation. Assim que melhorou o bastante, em 2002, começou a compor, para passar o tempo. Quando reuniu material suficiente, o músico começou a decidiu empregar suas letras num projecto musical. Para isso, começou a contatar outros músicos, e assim nasceu o projeto Delain. Martijn Westerholt assumiu os teclados e Charlotte Wessels (ex-To Elysium) os vocais, contando ainda com Ronald Landa na a guitarra, Rob van der Loo no baixo e Sander Zoer na bateria. Martijn Westerholt e Charlotte Wessels se encontraram por acaso. Martijn pediu a Charlotte que escrevesse a letra de uma canção e vocal à parte, e, após ouvi-la cantar, convidou-a para se juntar ao projeto, por considerar que sua sonoridade vocal se adequaria bem ao perfil da banda. Em junho de 2005, o Delain iniciou a gravação de seu primeiro álbum, “Lucidity”, que contou com algumas participações de peso: Jan Yrlund (Lacrimosa) e Ad Sluijter (Epica) ocupam-se das guitarras e Ariën van Weesenbeek (ex-God Dethroned e Epica) a bateria; para os vocais, foram convidados Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Liv Kristine (Leaves’ Eyes) e Marco Hietala (Nightwish e Tarot), sendo que este último, além dos vocais, também se ocupou do baixo; George Oosterhoek e Guus Eikens (Orphanage) fizeram os vocais guturais. O álbum “Lucidity” teve seu lançamento adiado por diversas vezes ao longo do ano de 2006, até 04 de setembro do mesmo ano. Durante o período, a banda disponibilizou amostras das músicas em seu website, e versões completas das faixas “Sleepwalker’s Dream” e “The Gathering”, assim como o vídeo-clipe da música “Frozen”.
